Configuring and Troubleshooting a Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Training

Overview

This five-day instructor-led course teaches students how to configure and troubleshoot Windows Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2 Sp1 network infrastructures. It will cover the networking technologies that are most commonly used with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1, such as DNS, DHCP, IPv4 and IPv6 network addressing, Network Policy server and Network Access Protection, as well as configuring secure network access. It also discusses fault-tolerant storage technologies, network storage and routing, remote access, monitoring and compliance updates, and other relevant technologies.

This course also directly maps to the exam objective domain of the 70-642:TS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring exam and is one of the MCTS prerequisites for the MCITP: Server Administrator credential. As a result, anyone planning to take the 70-642 exam or earn the MCITP: Server Administrator credential would benefit from taking this course.

Prerequisites

  • The candidate must have a working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems such as Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1 and Windows client operating systems such as Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  • Knowledge of client operating systems equivalent to the following certifications would be advantageous.
  • You should know how TCP/IP works, as well as addressing, name resolution (Domain Name System [DNS]/Windows Internet Name Service [WINS]), and connection methods (wired, wireless, virtual private network [VPN]).
  • You should be aware of security best practises such as file system permissions, authentication methods, workstation and server hardening, and so on.
  • Except for client experience, can meet the minimum level of knowledge required in the preceding three bullet points by having knowledge equivalent to the MOC course 6420B: Fundamentals of Windows Server 2008.
  • A basic understanding of Active Directory would also be advantageous.
